  • 1 cup butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Frosting
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons gel food coloring pink and purple (optional)
  • 1/4 cup Valentine's Day sprinkles optional

Method
 

Preparation Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar for 2-3 minutes until fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the mixture, mixing until fully combined.
  4. Sift in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt, gently folding until just combined.
  5. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for about 15 minutes, until lightly golden.
  6. Let the bars cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before frosting.
  7. For the frosting, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar until creamy, then mix in heavy cream and vanilla extract.
  8. Divide the frosting and color half with gel food coloring, then swirl both colored frostings over the cooled bars.
  9. Finish with Valentine's Day sprinkles for decoration.
