Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a large skillet over medium heat, add ground beef or turkey, cooking until browned and fully cooked, approximately 5-7 minutes.
- Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet with the meat. Sauté for 3-4 minutes until the onion becomes translucent.
- Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper into the meat mixture. Let it simmer for 5-7 minutes.
- While the sloppy joe mixture is simmering, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread softened butter on one side of each slice of thick-cut bread. Place the slices on a baking sheet with the buttered sides facing down.
- Spoon a generous amount of the sloppy joe mixture onto each slice of bread, followed by a sprinkle of mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10-12 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and garnish with freshly chopped parsley if desired.
