  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter can substitute with margarine or coconut oil
  • 1 large Egg for vegan, use ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup Brewed Coffee strong flavored coffee enhances richness
  • 1 cup Buttermilk substitute with milk mixed with 1 tsp of lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract skip for plain cake
For the Caramel Sauce
  • 1 cup Brown Sugar use light or dark depending on taste
  • ½ cup Heavy Cream half-and-half can be used for lighter option
  • 1 teaspoon Salt opt for finer salt
For the Coffee Drizzle
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar can be replaced with erythritol
  • 2 tablespoons Brewed Coffee adds smooth infusion

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and egg until light and fluffy, then add coffee, buttermilk, and vanilla.
  4. Gradually fold wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.
  5. Pour the batter into the baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. In a medium saucepan, combine brown sugar, butter, and heavy cream over medium heat, stirring until thickened.
  7. In a small bowl, mix brewed coffee with powdered sugar until smooth.
  8. Poke holes in the cooled cake and pour warm caramel sauce over it, then drizzle with coffee mixture.
  9. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature, optionally topping with whipped cream or ice cream.
