- Brown the meats by adding the ground beef and Italian sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat for 8-10 minutes until well-browned.
- Sauté the diced onion and minced garlic in the skillet for an additional 2-3 minutes until the onions are soft and translucent.
- Transfer the browned meat mixture into the slow cooker, making sure to scrape up any flavorful bits from the skillet.
- Add the jarred pasta sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, brown sugar, cayenne pepper, and bay leaf to the slow cooker; stir until well combined.
- Cover the slow cooker and set it to cook on LOW for 6-8 hours or HIGH for 3-4 hours.
- After cooking, taste and adjust seasonings if necessary. Remove the bay leaf and serve over cooked pasta, topped with grated Parmesan and fresh herbs.
