  • 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar Balances tartness for a delicious filling.
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour Helps thicken the apple filling.
For the Topping
  • 1 large Egg Yolk & Milk Dairy-free milk as an alternative for egg wash.
  • 4 scoops Vanilla Ice Cream Consider dairy-free options if needed.

Method
 

Baking Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in the butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until the dough comes together. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  3. In another bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg until evenly coated.
  4. Roll out one dough disk and press it into a 9-inch pie pan. Pour in the apple mixture and dot with butter.
  5. Roll out the second disk, place it over the filling, crimp edges, and cut slits in the top for steam to escape.
  6. Prepare the egg wash and apply it to the top crust.
  7. Bake at 425°F for 15 minutes, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake for another 35-45 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Let the pie cool for 15-20 minutes before serving with vanilla ice cream.
