Ingredients
  

For the Filling
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Can substitute with ground turkey or plant-based meat.
  • 1 medium Onion Diced.
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced.
  • 2 tbsp Tomato Paste or Ketchup BBQ sauce or mustard can be used.
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce Optional.
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheese Consider pepper jack for a spicy twist.
For the Dough
  • 1 pkg Dough or Puff Pastry Store-bought saves prep time.
  • 1 large Egg For egg wash.
  • 1 tbsp Water For egg wash.
Optional Add-ins
  • 1 cup Diced Bell Peppers Drain excess moisture.
  • 1/2 cup Jalapeños Drain excess moisture.
  • 1/2 cup Cooked Bacon Bits Drain excess moisture.

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté diced onion for 2-3 minutes until translucent, then add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  3. Add ground beef and cook for 6-8 minutes until browned, drain excess fat, then mix in tomato paste or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, allowing to simmer until thickened.
  4. Roll out dough or puff pastry to about ⅛ inch thickness and slice into 5x6 inch rectangles.
  5. Place a scoop of the cooled beef mixture on one half of each rectangle, top with shredded cheese, fold over and seal the edges.
  6. Whisk together an egg and water, then brush over the tops of each filled pocket.
  7. Arrange filled pockets on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
  8. Cool on a wire rack for about 5 minutes before serving.
