- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, sauté diced onion for 2-3 minutes until translucent, then add minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
- Add ground beef and cook for 6-8 minutes until browned, drain excess fat, then mix in tomato paste or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper, allowing to simmer until thickened.
- Roll out dough or puff pastry to about ⅛ inch thickness and slice into 5x6 inch rectangles.
- Place a scoop of the cooled beef mixture on one half of each rectangle, top with shredded cheese, fold over and seal the edges.
- Whisk together an egg and water, then brush over the tops of each filled pocket.
- Arrange filled pockets on the baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes until puffed and golden brown.
- Cool on a wire rack for about 5 minutes before serving.
